Training for those interested in the Mariner's Cove Citizen's Patrol (CP) will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse. An officer from HPD will meet with us to discuss the specifics of the program. You do not need to be part of the Neighborhood Security Watch (NSW) or e-mail alert list to join the CP, which is totally separate from the NSW. Following is an overview of the CP:
Residents walk around the neighborhood in groups (HPD prefers at least 4 to a group) to detect and deter crime. These are organized events which are known to the coordinator in advance. Participants should carry cell phones to call 911 if they do observe suspicious activity. At times, they will also meet with HPD officers to discuss what they have seen and other matters of concern resulting from their patrols. Citizen Patrols are run by the coordinator and members, according to the needs of the community and ability of the participants to devote time to it. Participants would be required to attend one session with HPD to ensure that they are aware of the program's requirements. Attendance at the February 28 session, which is being presented for residents to learn about the program, does not obligate you to join the CP but will suffice for the training requirement.
Please advise me by Monday, February 27, 2006 if you would like to attend this training session. Please contact me by e-mail or phone (395 1300) if you have any questions. Feel free to share this information with your neighbors who may not be part of the NSW or e-mail alert system.
